Galicia is a maritime community par excellence. This characteristic has led us to become leaders in sectors such as fisheries, aquaculture, maritime defense, nautical sports, marine biotechnology as well as shipbuilding and ship repair sector, which is the common link to all of them. It has been declared as strategic sector, both by the jobs that it generates and its level of turnover, as by its tractor character, with great repercussion in the regional socioeconomic environment.
The shipbuilding and ship repair sector represents the 5% of the Galician gross domestic product and employs 16,000 people. The average annual turnover of the last decade has reached 2,500 million Euros, which has made us the first Spanish community in shipbuilding and ship repair (at certain times 70% of Spanish naval production was developed in Galician shipyards)
In Galicia there are located 10 relevant shipyards and with a great international projection. 90% of the vessels built by these shipyards are intended for export. There are also about 200 companies that provide their services or sell their products to the shipyards, covering the entire sector value chain, which are also part of the Galician shipbuilding sector

Over the last few years, in addition to the industrial fabric, it has been developed a favorable environment for shipbuilding and ship repair in Galicia through the implementation of specialized support institutions, such as Universities, Technology centres, Training centres , Support foundations, as well as Associations.
The shipbuilding and ship repair sector in Galicia is fully developed and has the capacity to assume any shipbuilding project, no matter how complex it could be, with the only limitation of the size of our slips.

For this reason in Galicia we can build vessels of up to 346 metres legth, 60 meters beam and 395,000 tons and repair vessels up to 330 metres length, 50 metres beam and 230,000 tons.
