ADELAIDE y CANBERRA

Ship built by the Navantia public Shipyard.

The vessel was designed with four mission profiles:

  • As an amphibious vessel, capable of transporting a Marine Corps to perform a landing, supporting ground operations.
  • As a force projection vessel, transporting forces from any army to a theater of operations.
  • As an eventual platform for on-board aviation, serving as a platform for strategic projection airborne (aviation), ones, etc.).
  • As a ship for non-military operations: humanitarian support, evacuation of personnel from crisis areas, ship-hospital in areas affected by disasters, etc.

It is composed of the following equipment:

  • Two POD units of at least 11000 kWe each (Br and Er).
  • Propellers of removable fixed shovels of 4.5 m of approximate diameter, each one coupled to a units POD (Br and Er).
  • A turbo-generator set of 191600 kWe @ 3600 rpm located in the Main Aft Engine Chamber rigidly mounted on a common base which is resiliently supported on the ship's structure for reduction of on-board noise.
  • Two diesel generator sets of about 7448 BkW in the Main Bow Engine Chamber each rigidly mounted on a common base which is resiliently supported on the ship's structure for reduction of on-board noise.
  • Two main frames 6.6Kv, one in each engine room.
  • Two transverse thrusters at bow of approximately 1500 kWe each.
  • The ALHD has an emergency diesel generator group of approximately 1,350 kWE at a dedicated location.?

Tank Capacity

TANKS CAPACITY

The capacity of the tanks defined on the vessel has been made considering the following factors:

  • A discount for structure and pipelines of 2% of the net volume.
  • A 5% expansion discount on DFM fuel tanks, JP-5 aviation fuel and lubricating oil.

The required capacities of the various onboard fluids have been estimated considering a 5% non-aspirating fluid discount.

Fuel DFM

The vessel has sufficient diesel fuel capacity to meet the autonomy requirements.

The fuel required to meet the autonomy requirement is 1597.1 t.

50.0 t of additional DFM fuel is available for the consumption of landing craft.

The ship has a capacity of 450.0 t of DFM fuel for supply to naval units, amphibious vehicles, light or heavy.

JP-5 Aviation Fuel

Total JP-5 aviation fuel storage capacity of at least 851.0 t.

Lubricant oil

The vessel has a total lubricating oil storage capacity sufficient to fully recharge the service tank oil of each of the diesel engines of the two main generator diesel groups and to ensure its consumption of on-board lubricating oil for 50 days .

The vessel has a storage tank of lubricating oil of the gas turbine of the turbine generator group located in the main engine room of stern with sufficient capacity for the consumption of the gas turbine for 50 days.

Drinking water

The vessel has a fresh water capacity of at least 641.6,0 t sufficient to cover the consumption for two days of the maximum capacity of the vessel for a consumption of 182 l / person / day.

The maximum capacity to generate fresh water on board is 120% of the daily consumption for the maximum capacity of the vessel.

The vessel has an additional fresh water capacity of approximately 20.0 t for various uses (helicopter, aircraft, vehicle sweetening, fogged water system and other small consumers).

Technical Water

The vessel has a technical water tank with a capacity of at least 17,7 t.

Grey waters

The vessel has a storage capacity of gray water in two tanks equivalent to the daily production of gray water considering a ratio of 134 l / person / day and the maximum capacity of rating in accordance with section 528 of this specification.

Ballast water tanks may be used as an emergency gray water tank.

Load Capacity

TRANSPORTATION CAPABILITIES

The ALHD has the following on-board spaces dedicated to the stowage of transport loads with the approximate gross areas indicated:

  • 990 sqm hangar
  • Light Freight Garage 1880 sqm
  • Dyke (including ramp) 1165 sqm
  • Heavy Duty Garage 1410 sqm2
  • Flight Deck 4750 sqm
  • General Warehouses 1076 sqm

Other Characteristics

OTHER IMPORTANT CHARACTERISTICS

Speed

Economic speed

The ship achieves an economic speed of around 15.0 knots when only the two diesel engines of the generator sets operate under the conditions set out in the document "Calculation of Autonomy", so that fuel consumption is minimized to make the Transits at distances of intervention and autonomy.

Speed ??back

The vessel reaches a maximum speed back of around 8.0 knots, maintaining a proper course stability.

Maneuverability

The ship has an efficient propulsion system to achieve the required performance in terms of mobility and maneuverability.

The vessel is conceived as a "fully electric vessel" with POD azimuthal propellers powered by AC motors that give it high maneuverability.

The ship complies with the requirements for maneuverability in accordance with IMO Resolution A.751 (18) dated 4 November 1993.

Accommodation

The vessel has the capacity of accommodation for the Endowment, Staff, Naval Beach Group, Airborne Unit and Landing Forces.

At least 25% of space is reserved for categories for accommodation and health services specific to female staff. This reserve was designed with sufficient flexibility to be employed by male staff in whole or in part if necessary.
